As early as summer 2018, a joint venture led by FRIEDRICH VORWERK KG started preparatory work for the construction of the new Würselen compressor station for the client Open Grid Europe GmbH near Aachen.
In 2018, the access to the construction site and the construction site itself was developed by the consortium. In 2019, a further consortium then began the actual construction of the station.
The scope of services for our consortium is civil engineering, pipe and concrete construction. A large part of the approx. 8 km long large diameter pipeline construction was prefabricated in the prefabrication workshop in Herne and delivered to the construction site in individual spools. As of March 2020, 90 percent of the prefabrication seams and 80 percent of the construction site seams have already been made by our pipeline construction teams. All three electrically driven compressors with 13 megawatts each have already been installed. The connection of the units to the underground pipeline system will take place in April.
As things stand at present, we will hand over the project to our customer on schedule in November 2020. In addition to the pipe construction capacities of FRIEDRICH VORWERK KG and VORWERK-ASA GmbH, European Pipeline Services GmbH will also be responsible for the necessary leakage and strength tests after completion of the work. Furthermore, the services are actively supported by MESA (construction power/construction lighting/network/access control), Einhaus Anlagenservice -Poland (pipe supports, secondary steel construction) and Einhaus Geeste (special PE work). The new colleagues from Wiesmoor have also been making a decisive contribution to the completion of the pipe construction since January.
