In 2018, ARGE EGL 442, under the management of our branch office in Halle an der Saale, was commissioned by Ferngas Netzgesellschaft mbH to renew the natural gas pipeline 442 from Limbach to Niederhohndorf near Zwickau in the German states of Saxony and Thuringia. The EGL 442 was built in the 1950s to 1960s in the section now to be modernized and ensures provision in large parts of the south-east Thuringia and Saxony region. Due to the age of the line, it has become necessary to lay new lines in sections along the same route. The overall contract includes the laying of approx. 127 km of DN400/500 DP84 main pipeline and the replacement of 21 valve stations with the associated branch lines. Likewise, 4 cable protection pipes will also be laid parallel to the main line. In addition to the classic pipe and civil engineering services, the scope of services also includes the planning and installation of the EI&C and PPS systems of the EGL 442.
Since the supply of the connected communities must be ensured at all times, the renewal of the EGL 442 will be carried out in sections. During the shutdown periods, replacement supply measures are also planned in order to reliably supply downstream consumers with natural gas. The project is scheduled to run from 2019 to 2023. With the realization of the HDDs on the slopes of the Pleiße and the Schafsteich, the most difficult sections of the overall project will be executed by our colleagues this year.
